will be held at

Duncton Mill,
Near Petworth,
West Sussex

22nd – 27 February 2009
to be called

“THE BLESSING OF INSECURITY”

Why do we make an enemy of insecurity? All growth, by definition is into the unknown. Let us make an ally of insecurity and allow ourselves to work with it. If we know where we are going we are going round in circles.

Since this seminar was first presented in 1997, it has substantially altered in response to the students attending it. It is my hope that this will continue to happen. The course stands very satisfactorily on its own and also serves as an introduction to the “The Embodied Spirit” series.

There is a way of moving in this world unaided by certainty ..........with mind wide open and closed to answers, feel for the way (LAO TZU)

We have no need to know what we should be doing to the recipient. We need only to keep on asking the next question and receive the other at a progressively deeper level. The course moves towards establishing a truly client centered therapy.

What are these levels and where do we access them, in the co-practitioner/client/patient or in ourselves? We have incarnated in physical bodies. Let us ground ourselves in those bodies, in the present.

In spite of several hundred years of programming can we remember to be Human Beings and let go of being Human Doings? Underneath this, perhaps new age phrase, lies the truth that real healing can take place when we are fully heard at a deep level of being. Let us work towards this, as a priority, rather than alleviation of the expressed symptom.

The course will be grounded in the work of Franklyn Sills in succession to the work of William Garner Sutherland. The work of other teachers, modern and more ancient will be interwoven. The prime thrust will be the acceptance of the fact that at the core all beings are whole! (James S. Jealous D.O.).Our task is to mirror that wholeness, not correct the imbalance. We shall seek to work with the health, not energize the pathology.
Buddhist and Daoist principles underpin the work, though no demands are made on other belief systems, all of which are encouraged and respected.

The Venue

Duncton MillNestling at the foot of the South Downs in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this small country estate offers a haven of peace and tranquility in a spectacular setting. Visitors to the delightful properties at Duncton Mill are welcome to wander the estate’s 30 acres of woodland and old orchards, with their 8 acres of spring-fed trout lakes offering year-round fly fishing, and also to enjoy shared use of the games room and the heated outdoor swimming pool. (Set beside the swimming pool, The Pool House offers sole use of the pool outside shared times.) A perfect holiday retreat at any time of year for those who love painting, walking, and fishing, Duncton Mill offers an ideal base for exploring the many pretty towns, country houses and beauty spots in and around West Sussex.

We have recently completed the installation, in the woods above the main house, of a beautiful Buddha statue set in a mandala and surrounded by a meditation walkway. This is open to anyone who may appreciate a very still space for contemplation.

Duncton MillJust 4 miles away is Petworth with its National Trust-owned House and Park and many antique shops, whilst Chichester, with its beautiful cathedral, renowned Festival Theatre and excellent shops and restaurants, is 9 miles. Goodwood, famous for both horse and motor racing, Arundel Castle and wildlife reserve, Parham House, polo at Cowdray Park, Singleton open-air museum and Bignor Roman Villa, with its superb mosaics, are just some of the attractions within easy reach. A little further are Portsmouth with its wealth of nautical history and Brighton’s many attractions (both 30 miles). Along with its traditional seaside fun, extensive watersports facilities and magnificently restored Royal Pavilion, Brighton also offers delightfully eclectic shopping in the historic Lanes and the splendid Marina boasts several factory outlets to explore.

Nearby, the South Downs Way offers superb walking, sailing can be enjoyed at Chichester Harbour and the seashore at Climping (16 miles) affords the ideal opportunity to discover the joys of sand-castle building. There are numerous pubs locally serving wonderful food (the nearest is just a mile from Duncton Mill) whilst the nearest shops are to be found in Petworth, 4 miles.
