Painting and Drawing Courses with Barbara Boxhall
I am delighted to be offering this course at the beautiful Mill Retreat Centre in Northern France.
Painting and Drawing from Stillness March 19th - 22nd 2010
Open to everyone whether you have previous experience or are a complete beginner. Participants will connect with their inner source of creativity to develop a piece of work based on 'the spaces in-between'. This course is designed to open your heart, eye and hand to the creative flow which resides everywhere and in all of us.
'The real discovery consists not in seeing new landscapes, but in having new eyes'. Marcel Proust
Using a variety of exercises each morning, I will guide you through the process of understanding the interaction of space and form and how they work together to create an image. We will look at space and form both in the visual world, experiencing how these are translated onto the page, and how space and form within ourselves, informs our life and art. The afternoons will be devoted to a project of your own choosing, perhaps based on these discoveries.

'Buddha In The Shade'
Watercolour by Barbara Boxhall
I have a wealth of experience teaching art at every level. I ran the art department at Ford Prison, Sussex for twelve years teaching painting, drawing and ceramics. My time there was considered to be the most dynamic in the history of the department.
As a practising artist I am currently working on a new set of heart images developed from my series which was displayed at Duncton Mill and will be at the Mill Retreat Centre from October 2009. Having run Duncton Mill Retreat Centre, West Sussex for the last five years, I look forward to doing the same for Stillness Retreats at the Mill Retreat Centre and teaching art there from October 2009.
The Venue:- Stillness Retreats' home is at the Mill Retreat Centre, set in a beautiful part of Northern France on the boundary of Picardy and Normandy. The grounds are marvellous with a ten acre lake, wetland, woodland and river habitats to explore. The surrounding area is also wonderful walking country. The Mill House has a large ground floor workshop which is flooded with natural light, making it the perfect art room. The house is spacious with a typical French style dining room and 17 bedrooms (mostly twins) with shared bathrooms. This course will be limited to 16 people.
